Fossil Fuels

 

Using fossil fuels is one of the oldest and most common ways of generating power. It produces electricity by

 

  1. Burning coal and other natural materials to generate heat.

  2. Heating up water that turns into steam.

  3. Using the steam to turn a turbine.

 

The turbine then uses principles of electromagnetism to generate electricity. This simple process can be seen in the illustration below. As simple and cheap as fossil fuel is, there are some concerns with emissions and mining.
